WOODEN & WOVEN

The textural mix of wood, rattan, bamboo and cane brings natural warmth to a space. It is versatile in that it can be mixed in with both contemporary and tropical styles.

The Maison Objet fair held in Paris a few weeks ago placed a large emphasis on mixing natural materials with living plants.
Why? Apart from the textural design aspect, you protect the air quality inside the home!

Did you know? It is common to refer to wicker as a natural material but it actually designates a type of woven construction rather than one material. Wicker furniture can be made from a variety of plant fibers including bamboo, willow and abaca as well as synthetic materials.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable resources on earth.

MIX IT UP

I have always loved incorporating natural fibres into my home as it relaxes any room and creates textural contrast. It can range from larger furniture items to decorating surfaces.

RATTAN

Rattan is a vine-like species of palm and is a fast growing tropical plant found throughout Southeast Asia. Soft core can be woven and worked into wicker while the stems can be cut into sections and shaped.

We love rattan as its readily available, incredibly strong and can be stained or painted like any wood!

RAFFIA

Raffia is a type of palm native to tropical Africa. It can be died and woven into textiles.
